Introduction

After the Coup d’état on 1st February 2021, the Terrorist Military Council has taken control over our citizens’ basic rights by limiting access to the internet, and social media. Furthermore, the Military has been oppressing the media in an effort to obstruct accurate news reaching to the public.

The National Unity Government (NUG) was formed by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Representative Committee (CRPH) with the power of the people as a result of the democratic elections of all parties held in 2020.

During this interim period, the flow of information and communication needs to be ensured in the daily lives of people, allowing freedom of the press and information and paving the way for the systematic and sustainable development of the IT sector. With the aim of fulfilling these obligations towards the people, the NUG has formed the Ministry of Communications, Information and Technology (MOCIT) on 5th June 2021 .
